Life Development Foundation
The Life Development Foundation was founded on 2nd March, 1998 as a non-governmental organization. It was started by Rev. Silas Tsivanyo whose main preoccupation is rural evangelism. His routine visits to the various communities brought him face to face with the plight of the poor and marginalized in rural communities. The experiences of the situations drove his inner compassion to begin an effort to salvage the situation.
The organization which started as Life Development Group, gave way to Life Development Foundation in 2001 in line with the vision of the organization.
The aims of the organization include:
- Promotion of environmentally sound sustainable agricultural production.
- Creation of opportunities for socio-economic development of the youths.
- Promotion of education especially for marginalized children in the society to attain their full potentials.
- Health promotion - including adolescent reproductive health, HIV / AIDS, Malaria, TB etc.
Since its formation, LIDEFO has undertaken various interventions in the communities including:
- Provision of portable water for the Wudese community in 2001.
- Provision of skills training for youths in Kente weaving in Ho in 2002.
- Conducted environmental protection education campaigns in various rural communities.
- Conducted HIV / AIDS educational programmes for adolescents in safe sex practice and the prevention of STIs between 2003 and 2006.
