American Care for Sudan Foundation
John Dau, acting on behalf of 57 Lost Boys who emigrated from Duk County, prepared a conceptual proposal to build a medical clinic in Duk County. It was presented to a Local Foundation in Skaneateles NY in October of 2004.
It was favorably received and the Duk Lost Boys Clinic Project was started. John asked for help in preparing the conceptual proposal. That help was given by members of the First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles and was subsequently expanded to form a Task Force to provide expertise and experience in project development and construction. There were 3 Lost Boys, the Pastor, and 9 other members.
The intent of the Lost Boys was to raise the necessary funds from charitable organizations. The need for tax exempt 501(3)(C) status was evident and a Foundation, incorporated in the State of New York, has been formed. The name is the American Care for Sudan Foundation (ACSF).
The ACSF By-Laws call for a Board of Trustees of 9 members with 3 Lost Boys and 6 Task Force members serving. The Chairman is Richard Way of Skaneateles, NY.
The officers of the Foundation are John Dau-Presiden;t; Awol Deng-Vice President; Paul Ariik, and Malthung Bul- Treasure; Jacob Majok and Thon Aleer-Secretary; and Andrew Rauch-Information Officer.
A Project Manager has been established to supervise and coordinate all of the efforts of the Task Force Members, and communicate with the affiliated NGOs, contractors and to support government relations. The Project Manager reports to the Foundation and the Board of Directors.
The Project Manager is John W. Howard of Skaneateles NY. Oversight of the ACSF is conducted by a Board of Directors and an Advisory Task Force of professionals, including persons with experience in Third World medical projects, project oversight and management, medicine, medical equipment, construction planning and building construction, as well as the Pastor Rev. Dr. Craig Lindsey who recently returned from a trip to Duk Payuel to help establish and confirm relationships. |
